The goal of the "hotline":
To raise the population’s awareness of the danger of human trafficking, and to help victims.
Tasks of the "hotline":
- Handling calls requesting help or advice.
- Advising people who are going abroad, as well as helping victims of human trafficking, both in this country and abroad.
In November 2004, the Moscow centre for the aid of victims of human trafficking launched “hotlines” for Russia, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. A similar “hotline” was opened for the USA in 2005. The centre for the aid of victims of human trafficking is planning to involve new countries.
The current free “hotline” allows reliable information to be given to everyone who intends to go abroad for work, studies, marriage or other purposes. “Hotline” operators provide information about the conditions for legal travel abroad. People who call the “hotline” get advice on how to protect their rights and keep themselves safe during their stay abroad. Furthermore, “hotline” lets the members of the “Angel” coalition to help women and girls who have suffered due to human trafficking in different countries of the world, to come home and get into a rehabilitation program. Parents, relatives and NGO representatives can also ask the “hotline” to start a search for their missing relatives or clients, where there is a suscpicion that human trafficking activities are involved.
The “hotline” operates in Russian, which allows it to help all Russian-speakers who are abroad, including citizens of the CIS. This is invaluable in cases when a person calling the “hotline” does not speak the language of the country they are staying in. Our members also speak foreign languages, so we get requests and information from our partners abroad, who ask us for assistance.
“Hotline” functions twenty four hours a day. Members of the Help Centre and specially trained operators provide indispensable information and consultation services. If you are going abroad to work, you can check if your employment agency has a proper license by calling the “hotline”, and our operators will provide information from the Federal migration service database. On receiving a request for help, we collaborate, if necessary, with government institutions and international law-enforcement agencies. Victims of human trafficking can also get expert assistance in destination countries. To this end we cooperate with the governmental and nongovernmental organizations of these countries. It helps to speed up the process of identifying victims, getting them urgent medical and psychological treatment, continuing their rehabilitation, and returning them home.
The “Angel” coalition guarantees the confidentiality of every call to the “hotline”.
